I Ching · Learning guide

An I Ching reading builds a six-line hexagram and considers its judgment, line texts and changing lines. AstralNex uses three coins, recorded bottom to top, with an explicit text-selection policy. This differs from Na Jia Six Lines and Plum Blossom methods.

Foundations and calculation

Assign coin faces 2 and 3. Totals 6, 7, 8 and 9 mean changing yin, stable yang, stable yin and changing yang. Only 6 and 9 reverse polarity. The primary hexagram records the original lines; the relating hexagram records the changes. Preserve line order.

Reading and judgment

Zero changes selects the primary judgment; one selects that line; two reads both with upper emphasis; three reads both judgments without ranking them. Four or five reads the unchanged positions in the relating hexagram, with lower emphasis for four. Six reads Use Nine or Use Six for Qian or Kun, otherwise the relating judgment. This is an explicit policy, not universal consensus.
